Not All Skin Care is “caring”

Like the title says, not all skin care is caring, why? Prologic is based around a methodology called Corneotherapy. Corneotherapy is the care of the epidermis and treatment of the skin barrier function. Did you know to formulate a Corneotherapeutic product there are lots of ingredients that can’t be used? Here are some of them and what they do.

Fragrance- A sensitizing ingredient found in skincare. Fragrance causes irritation and leads to the impairment of the barrier function. It can also cause an increase in pigmentation.

Mineral Oil - A Bi-product of petroleum. It creates an unhealthy barrier over the skin, meaning the cells are not able to do their communicating with each other properly. It is also comodegenic (meaning it causes acne) and slows down the cell turnover process.

Emulsifiers- Emulsifiers are used to bind oil and water together, however when used on the skin they create a washout effect on the skin - binding your skins natural oil and water together, then stripping it from the skin. Leading to dryness and irritation.

Parabens - One of the most common preservatives found, used to extend the shelf life of your products! Research shows there is a link to exposure of parabens and an increase of Oestrogen in the body, leading to breast cancer.

SLS’s- SLS’s are common ingredients used as cleansing agents in face washes, shampoo’s, cleansers and hand soaps. They are a surface active agent, and break down the skin’s protection barrier causing dryness and irritation.

Synthetic Colours - Colours often come from petroleum or can you believe even tar. These ingredients are often contaminated with heavy metals like lead or arsenic. These cause major sensitivity of the skin and skin barrier. Both of which cause irritation, sensitivity and blockages in the skin.

Preservatives- Used to extend the shelf life of products by killing bacteria, however they also destroy the skin’s natural microbiome (healthy bacteria). This leads to total impairment of the barrier function.
